Restaurant sold-out signs and announcement templates
Tell guests exactly what is unavailable without making the whole restaurant sound closed. A single sold-out dish, an exhausted daily batch and an ingredient shortage need different wording. These examples help you state the limit, offer an available alternative where appropriate, and avoid promising an unconfirmed restock.
Choose an example below, replace the bracketed details, and check both languages before copying or printing. Editing happens on this browser page; nothing is published to an account.
One dish sold out today
[DISH] IS SOLD OUT TODAY — [DATE]
Thank you for visiting [Restaurant]. We still have [available alternatives] on the menu.
Our other menu items remain available during today's opening hours. Please ask our team about current availability.
SOLD OUT FOR [SERVICE AND DATE]
[Restaurant] has finished taking new orders for this service. Already confirmed pickup orders can still be collected at their agreed times.
Our next service starts on [date] at [time]. Thank you for your support.
[DISH] IS TEMPORARILY UNAVAILABLE
We do not yet have a confirmed return date. You can currently choose [available alternatives] at [Restaurant].
We will update the menu at [menu location] when this item is available again.
Name the unavailable dish or service; avoid a bare 'sold out' sign when the rest of the menu is available.
Check that suggested alternatives are actually available before printing or posting.
Use a return date only if supply and preparation are confirmed.
Update availability in your ordering channels too; a sign will not prevent an online order.
Confirm accepted orders separately. Do not imply that all existing orders are cancelled when only new orders have stopped.
Sold out is not always closed
When just one dish is unavailable, pair its name with an available alternative or point to the remaining menu. When the kitchen has stopped taking new orders, distinguish that from already accepted pickups. If the restock date is uncertain, say you will update availability instead of repeatedly moving a promised date. Do not manufacture scarcity or describe a normal stock shortage as overwhelming demand. Remove the sign as soon as the dish returns.
