How to prepare a DoorDash error charge dispute

Start with the charged order, not a generic complaint about delivery fees. This US merchant guide helps you document what the record actually shows and the specific deduction you want reviewed. The worked example is illustrative, not a customer case or a promise of recovery.

Statement term
An Error charge is a deduction associated with a reported order problem. It is distinct from the normal commission.
Where to look
Merchant Portal → Financials → Transactions → filter Error charge → open the order.
Timing
DoorDash specifies delivery within the last 14 days for portal disputes. For older deliveries, contact support; review is not guaranteed.
Account access
Use your own Admin or Store Manager access. DoorDash prohibits third-party portal access and third-party dispute submission.

Verify these platform rules against DoorDash US Merchant Help — Understanding Error Charges and Disputes and the terms shown in your account before acting.

Locate and review the adjustment

  1. Open the charged order and select Dispute Charge.
  2. Select the affected items and the applicable dispute reason.
  3. Submit using Dispute Error Charges, then track the order’s decision.

If the dispute option is missing

Check your role and the delivery date first. DoorDash also describes temporary restrictions after excessive disputing. A missing button alone does not establish the cause.

Approved does not mean matched to your bank deposit

Under review is not approval. Approved disputes appear in Adjustments and the estimated payout. That is not confirmation of a bank deposit. Suggested follow-up: match the order, credit and eventual settlement before marking the case reconciled.

Work through an example

Illustrative training scenario created by Gusflow; not a customer case or a promised outcome.

issue

Illustrative example, not a real customer case: an order shows a charge for a missing side dish. The restaurant believes the side was packed, but wants to check before disputing.

records

The owner finds the order ticket and a timestamped packing photo showing the side beside a bag labeled with the same order reference. Together these support a narrow statement: the side was present at the photographed packing stage.

limits

That photo does not establish what remained in the bag during handoff or what reached the customer. A kitchen ticket records an instruction; it does not by itself prove the instruction was completed. Neither record proves dishonesty.

next

Suggested preparation: preserve the original files, identify the item and charged amount, and describe only what is visible. Ask for review of that item’s deduction. If the record is incomplete, state the gap instead of filling it with an accusation.

Build a useful evidence packet

The following is Gusflow’s preparation checklist, not a list of guaranteed approval criteria.

  • Suggested worksheet: order reference, delivery date, charged item and deduction amount copied from the same order.
  • Record each supporting file and the specific fact it supports; keep unsupported beliefs in a separate notes field.
  • Write the discrepancy in one sentence and specify the charge you want reviewed.
  • After submission, keep the decision and any later credit as separate entries so they are not counted twice.

Prepare your DoorDash evidence summary

Choose only records you have checked. Your entries stay on this page and clear on refresh. This tool prepares a text summary; it does not access a merchant account, submit a dispute or upload evidence.

The interactive summary accepts an order reference, order date, issue, records you can provide and optional factual notes. Chinese field explanations are available; free-text notes are not automatically translated. Review the summary and attach actual records through your own authorized merchant account.
